Today, we are writing effective sentences for a newspaper report.

Start by thinking about the 5Ws .

Who?

e.g. Queen Sychorax.

What?

e.g. Posters threatening death to wizards.

Where?

e.g. Wizard fort/Badwoods.

When?

e.g. Last night/yesterday evening/earlier today/shortly after daybreak.

Why?

e.g. Being magic/trespassing.

Try to organise these ideas into a paragraph.

e.g. A wave of horror tore across the wildwoods yesterday as the killer-Queen Sychorax - head of the Iron Warriors - declared death to all wizards.

Now think about verbs that mean the same as:

1. disallowing.

e.g. forbidding, banning, outlawing

2. warning.

e.g. telling, calling for, demanding, ordering, promising.

3. taken.

e.g. captured, confiscated, destroyed, incinerated,

4. entering.

e.g. accessing, setting foot in.

Use some of these ideas in your writing.

e.g. Posters forbidding any magical creature from entering the Badwoods and threatening the removal of wizards' heads have been seized.

Think of magic based puns to do with magic.

e.g. Spell it out, she spells trouble, the sweet spell of victory, ex-spelled.

Choose your favourite to be a sub-heading.

e.g. Breaking the Spell.
