Rhyme of the Week – Row, Row, Row Your Boat:
Remember to talk about the rhyming words that you can hear. Can you think of any other words that rhyme with “stream and dream?”
This is a really good rhyme to move or play an instrument to. You could sit on the floor and row as you sing (either on your own or facing somebody else and holding hands) or use an instrument, shaking, plucking or banging to the beat.
Can you make your own boat that can float in a bowl of water? You might like to try using a bottle top, a cork or foil. Then, sing the rhyme as your boat floats!
There are lots of other verses you can add to this song, based on your favourite animals. Here are some below. You could choose one to learn or even make up your own.
Row, row, row your boat Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the river Gently all the way
If you see a polar bear If you see a horse or two
Don’t forget to shiver Don’t forget to neigh
Row, row, row your boat Row, row, row your boat
Gently to the shore I can show you how
If you see a lion there If you see a pussycat
Don’t forget to roar Don’t forget to miaow
Row, row, row your boat Row, row, row your boat
Paddle your canoe Gently, just like this
If you see a herd of cows If you see a snake in the grass
Don’t forget to moo Don’t forget to hiss
Row, row, row your boat Row, row, row your boat
Gently up the creek Quickly, please don’t dither
If you see a tiny mouse If you see a wiggly worm
Don’t forget to squeak Don’t forget to slither
Pencil Control
Practise using your pencil to draw different types of waves. You might like to draw the waves for your child to trace over or they may be able to do it themselves. Can you draw the waves on a calm day? On a choppy day? If there was a storm?
