Today, we are going to subtract multiples of 10 from a 2 digit number. Minus and take away are also words that mean the same as subtract.

Start by counting back in 10s from a given number. You can do this by continuing these counting patterns. Remember, when you count back in 10s, the tens number changes but the ones number stays the same.

  • 65, 55, ___, ___, ___
  • 73, 63, ___, ___, ___, ___, ___
  • 42, ___, ___, ___
  • 87, ___, ___, ___, ___

I have made a video to show you how to subtract multiples of 10 from a 2 digit number using a number line. You can find this in the Video Resource Centre or you can follow this link.

Now it's your turn. You can draw a number line to help you to solve these problems or you can use mental subtraction skills.
You do not need to print out this sheet, you can write the questions out on a piece of paper or in your home learning book.
