Welcome to our final lesson on Materials.

Do you know what this symbol means?

That's right, it's the recycling logo. Today, we are going to be learning about the process of recycling different materials. Watch the BBC Bitesize video below to find out how different materials are processed to recycle them.

With a grown up, have a go at sorting some materials for recycling. Can you sort the materials into groups, just like they would be sorted in a recycling plant - paper, cardboard, plastic, metal, glass? What happens to objects that have mixed materials eg glass jars with metal lids, cardboard with a plastic insert? What could you do to with these objects to help with the recycling process?

When you have sorted some materials for recycling, have a go at this worksheet where you will be ordering the steps of the recycling process. The PowerPoint below will help you to do this.

So now that we know how to recycle, can you explain why we should recycle?

The BBC Bitesize video below might be able to help you to explain why we should recycle as much of our rubbish as possible.

If you want to, you could have a go at designing a poster explaining why we should recycle our rubbish. You could display your poster in a window at home to help inform people about the importance of recycling.
