Welcome to Week 5!
What a fabulous week we had last week! We have now reached that magical point where the children know enough letters to start really being able to read and we have had children read their first entire book this week (where all of the words were made of the letters s,a,t and p). This is a huge milestone as a learner. Being a Reception class teacher feels like a very special job at this time of the year!
Last week, we had so much fun exploring the book 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' by Michael Rosen. There was so much fantastic language, role play, small world play, building and storytelling going on in our classroom which was buzzing with language and words. This week we are continuing our 'Bears' theme with the focus text 'Peace At Last' by Jill Murphy. If you and your child engaged with our home learning during lockdown last term, then you may already be familiar with this text, which is never a bad thing! Now that we are in Reception we will be taking the learning in different directions than we did last term and using their knowledge of the text to extend their learning either further!
Quite a number of parents have spoken to me about issues with children sleeping and organising bed times so we will be using the story of 'Peace At Last' in which Mr Bear cannot sleep, to talk to the children about the importance of sleep and getting into a good bedtime routine. Below I have put some additional advice that may help you with this aspect of supporting your child's development.
A reminder about Thursday: On Thursday we will be celebrating the launch of Numbots and TT Rockstars across school with a Maths day. Children are invited to come to school dressed as a robot or a rockstar (I have my robot costume ready!) for a day of Maths learning. Therefore, children will NOT NEED their PE kits this week. We will ensure they have their PE allowance across the week in other sessions.
As we work out a clearer routine it has become clear that children only need to bring their book bags on a Monday and Thursday when books are to be changed as they take up a lot of room in the cloakroom.
Please can you also ensure that you are dropping off and picking up your child during your allotted time slot based on your surname as we are having gaps with no one followed by really rushed periods where we have traffic jams and are rushing children in and out.
Please find below the week's Class Learning and Home Learning. It has been wonderful to see so many of you engaging with this and posting on Tapestry. Please keep it going!
